WP Magazine themes

May 11th, 2008 | By msouden | Category: Themes, web design

So I’m mucking about with magazine-style WP themes and, like all themes, have yet to discover one that does just what I want it to. So, keep an eye out for changes to this theme as I work on it. Perhaps I’ll add notes to exactly what I’ve done here in comments.

An image.

This image made me want to design. I like the color and texture. Thinking I might (in all that spare time of mine) design a wordpress theme inspired by this CD sleeve. Two points and a cup of coffee to whoever recognizes the artist.

Tuned to SEO

Mar 5th, 2008 | By msouden | Category: SEO

I’ve moved away a few content management systems, and SEO was one reason. I’ve found a nice niche market for building smaller sites for companies using the WordPress engine, and one of its strong points (along with ease of management) is that it’s very search-engine friendly- with some customization. Anymore my WP sites all include [...]

IE 8 MIGHT comply with standards

Mar 5th, 2008 | By msouden | Category: web design

Finally – “Microsoft backs down” as Wired puts it. My own opinion – I’ll believe it when I see it. My skeptical money is that what M$ will end up calling compliance will be something different from actual compliance as developers need to actually utilize cross-browser standardization. As I’ve gotten more freelance and development work [...]

Playing with calendars

Jan 26th, 2008 | By msouden | Category: Plugins, web design

So I’ve been looking at WP calendaring plugins and widgets. Spent an embarrassingly long time, sent some email that’s now embarrassing too, because the best way to go is a code snippet offered by google in the Gcal settings. Doh. So – the sidebar is one example (text is a little small and uninformative, and [...]

Short summary – actually writing

Oct 10th, 2007 | By msouden | Category: CMS, WordPress

It’s been too long since writing or posting anything to the blog so this is a 1/2-hearted attempt to remedy that. I successfully migrated a blog with 1000+ posts from Blogware to a WordPress site recently. Rather proud of that one – and very happy not to have to [ctrl-c] [ctrl-v] until I wanted to [...]

Color Palates Made Easy

Sep 5th, 2007 | By msouden | Category: web design

This from MacBreak weekly – a podcast I’m listening to right now, so I’ll have to find the links for it later. Evidently one easy way to get a color palate is to find a piece of artwork or image – or take picture of something with a nice sense of color you’d like for [...]

Center for Strengths-Based Strategies

Aug 24th, 2007 | By msouden | Category: Clients

The CSBS is a small consulting business for social/helping professions. From their web site: “Our goal is to increase a Strengths approach across all of the helping professions for work with individuals and families.”I was asked to build a basic web site for the company which they could maintain themselves. We installed the Joomla content [...]

Another Ann Arbor

Sep 2nd, 2006 | By msouden | Category: Clients

Another Ann Arbor is a small local nonprofit who’s stated goals is to “provide a means of communication for the African American community in Washentaw County. This is a web site where information is shared and matters of common interest can be discussed.”I was brought on to develop community awareness and participation with the organization. [...]

MQCCC

Jan 14th, 2006 | By msouden | Category: CMS, Clients

The MQCCC is a public authority created by governor Granholm to leverage technology for improved training, screening, and selection of home care providers. I was initially brought on to market the “QC3″ to its main constituencies – those in need of in-home care and those providing it.Because the organization was very early in its start-up [...]
