I was a guest lecturer at University College Dublin during the 2011-2012 and 2012-13 academic years for two courses. The first was IS20060 – Information Design.
Historically this was primarily focused on page layout and “desktop publishing” using Adobe’s InDesign. I expanded it to include design concepts, fundamentals, and cognition. Topics covered included fundamental design practices, objectives, trends, infographics, user interface design, and urban design. I lectured and assigned student presentations to be done using Prezi – a presentation app that makes use of grouping and forced perspective to establish relationships.
The screen “pans” and “zooms” in and out as the presentation proceeds, enhancing contextualization of content topics. It was such a fun course.
